Once Upon A Time…

Blending the plot of Brothers Grimm fairytales such as Rapunzel, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, and Jack & the Beanstalk; Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine’s Into the Woods is one of their most enduring and popular musicals.

At the behest of a witch, a baker and his wife leave their home and journey into the woods to lift a curse that has been placed upon them. Little Red is on her way to her grandmothers house. Jack is on his way to market to sell his cow and best friend, Milky White. Cinderella hopes to attend the festival and meet her Prince Charming. All of them wish to find something in the woods, but soon they will learn that although wishes may comes true - they are not always as they seem.

Originally produced on Broadway in 1987, winning three Tony Awards including Best Score and Best Book, the musical has enjoyed many subsequent productions: including the 2010 outdoor revival at Regent’s Park Open Air theatre, which subsequently transferred to New York’s Shakespeare in the Park, a 2022 Broadway revival which was nominated for 6 Tony Awards, and a 2025 West End revival - nominated for 11 Olivier Awards.
